RECENT SNOW IN FRAZIER PARK

HEY THERE!!!  Here is a picture of the most recent snow in Frazier Park...

Although some snow has melted, there is plenty of snow play at higher elevations, and the road conditions are perfect in Frazier Park and on the I5.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

  2. Hello Anon,

Snow access is in the Las Padres National forest in Frazier Park, and they do require an Adventure Pass, and here is a link for one

  4. We've never been to Frazier Park before. Where is a good place to start? We have older elementary school aged kids who want some fun snow play. Thanks so much!

  5. Hi Elizabeth:
Thanks much for your blog. I'm always looking for detailed updates for snow play conditions in the FP area as this is our favorite spot for inexpensive snow fun, coming from Ventura County. So excited to see it's worth the drive right now. We plan to come soon. Keep the updates coming!

  6. Dear donutty,

The best place for snow is at the top of Mt Pinos. That is the highest elevation, with the most snow, and plenty of parking.

If you look in the column to the right where it is titled what viewers are reading now and favorite posts, you will find tons of info about Frazier Park and where to play in the snow. Great pics of snow in Frazier Park, if I might say so as well.

    Have fun!!!

  7. You are welcome Molly. So glad you all are in love with the snow and Frazier Park as well.

We play and sleigh in the snow in Frazier Park all the time ;)

  9. do you think there could still be snow up in the mountains?

  10. The snow in Frazier Park was thin and getting dirty. We passed on that and headed to the top of Mount Pinos, which was wonderful. Plenty of fresh powder and it continued to snow late yesterday morning. A nice man gave us a sled he found as we didn't have a sled. We paid the $5 parking pass.

I would advise against climbing the mountain, when there is snow on the road, unless your have 4-wheel drive or chains handy. My SUV handled it fine with Mud and Snow tires.

FYI, sleds at Mountain View Mini Mart are $25.

  14. Thanks Rex...

The snow up on Mount Pinos is always best, and safer to park. Usually the snow plowers clear it pretty good, especially on the weekend.

During the winter months you can usually find inexpensive sleds at Big 5 or Wal Mart. They usually go for between $5 and $10 but who knows with all the prices going up on everything because of the economy.

Glad you had a great time, and thanks again for sharing about your visit to the snow in Frazier Park.

  15. Hi Elizabeth,

I am planning to Frazier park for the first time and have two little daughters. Pls let me know if fresh snow is still available and which is the best place to find snow and do we require chains for tires or is it OK with out it. I have a nissan sentra.

  16. Hi Anon,

There is a lot of snow in Frazier Park right now. Where to go? Read my post Snow Play in Frazier Park CA (copy and paste this link into your search box) http://frazierparkca.blogspot.com/2010/01/snow-play-in-frazier-park-ca.html
and you will find great directions where to play in the snow in Frazier Park.

Because of the snow fall from yesterday and last night, I do not know if the I5 is open right now but you will need chains if you come up.

The CHP sometimes stops traffic to make sure they have chains. Have fun...

  17. After you get off the freeway, are there places to play in the snow that you can access without having chains?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes Anon, there are. Read my post SNOW PLAY IN FRAZIER PARK CA, and you will find directions. You can find the post in the left column. Good luck...

  19. And do you need the adventure pass for those areas?

    ReplyDelete
  20. When you enter Los Padres National Forest (there are signs on the road) you will need a pass. So, not everywhere you play in the snow will require a pass. Some people come up to Frazier Park right after a snow, there are places off the freeway that have snow to play, and not all require a pass. You will see signs.

  30. Wondering if this rain means new snow on Pinos or it is melting what you had? Hoping to come up on Sunday, Jan. 27th. Will road blocks be an issue?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Chris...

I am pretty confident there will be snow on the top of Mt Pinos for a while. The only time there are road blocks is when is snows heavily. Unless it snows this weekend you should be okay.

    Have fun...
